The whole ladder, one afternoon

IC, manager, director, executive used to take years each. Agentic operations compress the arc into one afternoon: set the vision, brief, delegate, review, fix.

This hits home hard. Especially with the FOMO cycles accelerating.

Adding another layer - People who take pride in the size of the org they are leading, now seeing hierarchies compress and implode....

Echoes Lopp's (@rands) "The Art of Leadership" and how it maps a career as jumps: IC, manager, director, executive. Each takes years to master and mount to the next.

Today, agentic operations compress that whole arc into one afternoon: set the vision, brief, delegate, review, fix. Similar skills, new mediums, all at once.

What I love about this is that the transition is no longer about years and permission - it's about being curious and experiment across the ladder.

Always a student 🧘

Graphic titled “the whole ladder, one afternoon.” On the left, a large purple record labeled “old world: each takes years to master,” with manager, director and executive around its grooves. On the right, a small red record labeled “new world: set the vision / brief / delegate / review / fix.” Bottom line: “similar skills, new mediums, all at once. always a student.”
